11/02/2010 8:10 AM - The Indianapolis Colts signed defensive back Cornelius Brown to the active roster from their practice squad and released running back Andre Brown. Cornelius Brown was previously with teh Chicago Bears before being cut Sept. 4 and signed to the Colts' practice squad two days later. Cornelius Brown recorded 130 career tackles at Texas-El Paso, deflecting 24 passes. As a senior, he posted 41 tackles, eight pass deflections and one forced fumble. The Colts had signed Andre Brown off waivers from the Denver Broncos. He's eligible to be signed to the practice squad if he clears waivers. Brown is a second-year pro who was selected by the New York Giants in the fourth round last year from North Carolina State University. He spent his rookie year on the Giants’ reserve/injured list before leading the club in rushing yards (21-95, one touchdown) and kickoff return yards (7-120, 17.1 avg.) in his first game as a pro during the preseason this year. At N.C. State, Brown played 44 games with 30 starts and finished his career ranked ninth in school history in all-purpose yards with 3,511 yards, including 2,539 rushing yards and 22 touchdowns.
